Major Responsibilities
- Performance of comprehensive non-invasive, invasive and vascular procedures to demonstrate (OB/GYN) anatomy under investigation.
- Provide physiologic assessment of OB/GYN vasculature and fetal well‑being.
- Independently provide technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnosis of the high‑risk OB/GYN patient.
- Combine clinical history while performing sonographic study to summarize findings and document information/action to the appropriate physician.
- Assist physicians during invasive procedures which include amniocentesis, sonohysterograms, endometrial biopsies, and chorionic villi sampling.
- Documentation of patient history and results of study.
- Review patient history by clinical information available from charts and one‑on‑one verbal review with patient.
- Summarize findings by imaging technologist must be entered onto the Perinatal computer network, requiring advanced knowledge of both computer hardware and software.
- Notify appropriate physician of summary of findings.
- Displays competent understanding and operation of ultrasound equipment.
- Report any malfunctions to the manager or proper company for repairs if needed.
- Perform start‑up and shut‑down procedures on all equipment.
- Operate all ultrasound equipment competently.
- Modify technical factors as situations warrant.
- Ensure images are labeled with patient identification properly.
- Perform problem solving when equipment malfunctions or physical limitations occur.
- Handle all equipment with care.
- Delivery of patient care.
- Responsible for welfare and care of all patients under control, implementing immobilization devices as necessary for safety and comfort.
- Introduce self and explain exam to patient.
- Reconfirm patient identification with the two patient verified procedure requested.
- Use scripting when required.
- Maintain positive customer relations including proper phone etiquette.
- Display professional manner when relating to patients, physicians, family members, etc. at all times.
- Displays competent understanding of patient positioning and image critique.
- Competently position patients for all ultrasound exams.
- Perform problem solving related to physical limitations of patient during positioning.
- Competently perform film reviews to determine if additional views are necessary to complete the exam.
- Minimize repeat work.
- Participates in professional development.
- Attend continuing education seminars and keep abreast of current literature.
- Maintain professional accreditation in ARDMS and Nuchal Translucency certification.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Maintain required amount of CME credits for ARDMS.
- Participate in problem solving to improve quality for the department.
- Maintain CPR certification.
- Provide directions and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance.
- Other Duties.
- Ensure a secure, safe patient and work environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazard labels, pathology specimens, complete laboratory requisitions and deliveries to appropriate laboratory.
- Clean, prepare and sanitize aspiration handles and endocavity transducers for invasive procedures and endovaginal/translabial imaging according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection controls.
- Apply sterile techniques and prevent cross contamination to patients and instruments.
- Maintain adequate supplies (gel, film, syringes) in US rooms and notify manager if supplies are depleted.
- Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.
- Enter charges for completed procedures.
- Communicate with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.
- Assume lead position as necessary in the absence of Lead Technologist and/or department supervisor.
- Interact closely with the Ultrasound Team Lead and department supervisor to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.
- Attend regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in‑services.
- Assist in orientation of Ultrasound Department personnel.
- Help in answering telephones, reviewing physician’s orders as needed or other related duties as requested by department supervisor.
