Pay Range: $38.02 - $61.88 per hour

Summary:

Job Summary:

This role coordinates the delivery of comprehensive cardiopulmonary care by administering and managing a range of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions and advanced procedures across all patient care areas. The Clinical Specialist exemplifies clinical leadership by mentoring staff, advancing clinical practice through quality improvement initiatives, education, and the integration of evidence-based practices, while ensuring the highest standards of care in complex patient scenarios within the academic medical center.

Focus may be in adult and/or neonatal-pediatric respiratory care. This position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Active Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license at start date
    • Applied for IL license if from out of state
  • BLS prior to start date
  • ACLS prior to start date (Adults)
  • PALS prior to start date (Neo/Peds)
Preferred

Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a healthcare related field
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - obtained within 180 days of hire (neo/peds)
  • Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) credential (Adults)
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) credential (Neo/Peds)
  • American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) Membership - obtained within 180 days of hire

Required Additional Job Qualifications to Float in a specialty area:
  • Minimum 1-year RCS experience at RUMC at time of application
  • Must pass annual competency with no more than one remediation in float area(s)
    • Annual Competencies requiring remediation will be tracked and assessed year-to-year
Physical Demands:
  • Standing, walking, pushing, and bending for 75% of the day
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds to handle cylinders
  • Ability to be highly adaptable to respond to changing workloads and priorities
Responsibilities:

Job Responsibilities and Expectations:
  • Assess patient cardiopulmonary status through clinical observation, patient assessment, and physiological monitoring
  • Administer bronchial hygiene and therapeutic interventions guided by evidence-based protocols
  • Recommend and implement appropriate interventions to include but not limited to initiation, alteration and discontinuation of therapy based on patient assessment
  • Assess patients before, during and after the administration or application of any medication, procedure or device
  • Provide invasive and non-invasive ventilator management based on patient clinical assessment, diagnostic results, ventilation values and waveform analysis
  • Perform airway management through assessment, assistance with placement, securement, maintenance, and removal of an artificial airway
