Location: Advocate Sherman Hospital - 1425 N Randall Rd

Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE)

Scheduling :
Must be available to work Wednesday's day shift starting between 6am-8am. Will also work 2 evening shifts a week as well as be included in a weekend rotation working 2:00pm-8:00pm.

Shift: Various, see above for scheduling.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Determines mammographic optimal image quality by using proper compression, technique and positioning.

  • Secures history from patient regarding reason for mammography exam and records on appropriate form for Radiologists information.

  • Positions patient, adjusts equipment, and compression devices as necessary, using tact and courtesy at all times

  • Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain quality films to provide Radiologist with a diagnostic tool.

  • Operation of advanced and sophisticated state of the art digital mammography equipment and PACS

  • Assists Radiologists with stereotactic and needle localization exams.

  • Operates mammography equipment, film printer, densitometer and PACS equipment.

  • Prepares procedure rooms for exams and maintains equipment as required.

  • Ability to troubleshoot diagnostic mammography and PACS equipment and communicate appropriately before equipment. Contacts service when needed. becomes a major breakdown.

  • Performs daily phantom QC in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

  • Delivery of patient care and a “Service First” approach in accordance with departmental standards of continued quality improvement

    Demonstrates excellent communication skills by answering questions from various hospital personnel, coordinating patient flow, and communicating with other technologists.

  • Maintains positive customer relations following prescribed department policies

  • Assumes leadership role in absence of mammography lead to ensure continuity of department operations to include QA and QC procedures in addition to patient care

  • Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care, department operations, image quality, inter-departmental relationships and employee satisfaction.

  • Is self-directed in securing supplies and equipment for the department.

  • Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental procedures. Transports and or escorts patients into and out of department when necessary.

  • Participates and assists the coordinators and manager with image quality activities.

  • Checks image quality to assure optimum quality and makes sure correct image labeling is provided.

  • Participates and recommends changes that would improve image quality.

  • Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining continued awareness of safety hazards

  • Adheres to safety practices and provides a safe work environment for self and others

  • Development of leadership skills and professionalism for self through participation in department and/or hospital-based committees and continuing education programs

  • Assumes a leadership role in providing instruction and direction to students participating in the clinical program and helps evaluate performance.

  • Provides instruction and direction to Technologists in the performance of specific related duties.

  • Provides in-services to the technical staff in order to maintain technical competence

  • Attends to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner.

  • Demonstrates self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.

  • Completes all development goals and departmental in-services and competencies, within timeframe

  • Attends and participates in department meetings

  • Works independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change

  • Identifies problems and takes steps toward resolution.

Education/Experience

Required:

  • Must be ARRT certified

  • Minimum of one year Mammography experience preferred

  • This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e.., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
