Network Engineer
Network Infrastructure Specialist
This position involves supporting the FAA by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure critical to aviation safety and operations. The role requires managing IP-based networks, including routing, switching, security, and fiber optic systems, across a regional area. The successful candidate will work from a designated location and travel throughout the region to support multiple sites, ensuring network reliability, performance, and security.
Responsibilities- Maintain the uptime, performance, and security of FAA network infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and support routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
- Support SD-WAN deployment and health across distributed environments.
- Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR and certification tools to ensure quality and performance.
- Monitor network systems daily, analyze logs, and respond to incidents, escalating issues as necessary.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues across fiber, SD-WAN, and IP layers to restore optimal performance.
- Support network cutovers, migrations, and validation of failover procedures.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and configuration records.
- Respond to and resolve network incidents to minimize downtime and impact.
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent (e.g., Master's with 6+ years, Associate's with 10+ years, or GED with 12+ years).
- Proven experience managing enterprise network environments supporting large-scale systems.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar network devices and technologies.
- Experience with TDM-to-IP migration projects and modern IP-based networking systems.
- Solid understanding of SD-WAN, fiber optics, wireless LAN/WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and network monitoring tools (e.g., Solar Winds, Nagios).
- Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and technical schematics.
- Experience with fiber testing tools such as OTDR.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Publishing Pay Range: $64.00 – $68.00 hourly This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
