The Vice President, Business Development is responsible for driving strategic growth and diversification into the healthcare and industrial construction sectors. This role focuses on building a strong pipeline of healthcare facilities (hospitals, outpatient centers, medical office buildings, senior living, etc.) and industrial projects (manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, food & beverage, advanced manufacturing, etc.) across the Midwest and nationally.
This position requires an established network of healthcare systems, developers, corporate occupiers, program managers, and industry partners. The Vice President will position the organization as a trusted, high-performing partner for complex healthcare and industrial construction programs, emphasizing reliability, quality, and client-focused delivery.
The leader owns the identification, cultivation, and conversion of major opportunities; shapes high-value pursuit strategies; guides firm-wide go/no-go decisions; and ensures strong competitive positioning in target markets. This role works closely with senior leadership, Preconstruction, Operations, and Marketing teams to expand the organization’s footprint in healthcare and industrial construction and generate sustainable, long-term backlog.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Growth & Market Expansion- Lead business development efforts focused on healthcare and industrial construction sectors.
- Leverage an established network to originate new project opportunities in hospitals, medical facilities, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and related industrial projects.
- Shape and execute long-term diversification and growth strategy while adapting to evolving market dynamics, funding sources, and client needs.
- Serve as the strategic lead for major pursuits in healthcare and industrial markets.
- Drive disciplined go/no-go decision-making based on risk, strategic fit, and win probability.
- Partner closely with Marketing, Preconstruction, and Operations on compelling proposals, presentations, and pursuit strategies.
- Build and sustain high-level relationships with senior decision-makers at healthcare systems, hospital networks, industrial developers, corporate real estate teams, and program managers to drive repeat business and pipeline growth.
- Represent the organization at key industry events, conferences, and trade associations (e.g., healthcare design/construction forums, industrial development groups).
- Support client satisfaction, retention, and strategic account management initiatives.
- Work closely with Preconstruction and Operations leadership on every major pursuit to develop winning delivery strategies, identify and mitigate risks early, and align scope, schedule, and budget with client objectives.
- Develop, mentor, and activate regional business development resources and seller-doers to ensure consistent pursuit discipline, knowledge sharing, and accountability.
- Partner with Marketing and Brand Strategy to align sector-specific messaging, thought leadership, and visibility with the priorities of healthcare and industrial clients.
- 10–20+ years of progressive business development leadership in healthcare and/or industrial construction markets.
- Demonstrated success securing and closing large-scale construction projects ($10M–$100M+ range) in healthcare facilities or industrial/build-to-suit projects.
- Established network of relationships with healthcare providers, hospital systems, industrial developers, corporate occupiers, and key industry connectors in the Midwest and nationally.
- Executive presence and credibility with C-suite and senior decision-makers.
- Deep understanding of healthcare construction (including regulatory, infection control, and accreditation requirements) and/or industrial construction delivery models, procurement strategies, and complex stakeholder environments.
