Position Summary

The First Shift Assembler is responsible for the disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of heavy-duty industrial gearbox units used in various industry applications. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow standardized work instructions to ensure high-quality repairs that meet customer and engineering requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform disassembly and assembly of large industrial gearbox units, including housings, shafts, bearings, seals, gears, and associated components.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections, documenting findings in accordance with repair standards and quality procedures.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, torque tools, etc.) to verify component tolerances.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), engineering drawings, and repair manuals to ensure accurate and repeatable repair processes.
  • Assist in root-cause evaluation of damaged parts and provide feedback to Quality and Engineering when required.
  • Operate overhead cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment safely to move large components.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Work Orders, repair checklists, and digital systems (SharePoint, etc.).
  • Ensure work is completed to ISO, safety, and quality requirements while maintaining a clean and organized work area (5S).
  • Collaborate with team members to meet daily production schedules and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department goals.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical assembly, industrial maintenance, or heavy equipment repair (gearbox experience preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and build documentation.
  • Proficiency with mechanical hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to safely lift and handle heavy components with mechanical assistance.
  • Basic computer skills for entering work order data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with industrial gearboxes, rotating equipment, or power-transmission systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing / 5S practices.
  • Certification or training in crane/hoist operation or forklift operation.
