Position:
Master Electronics Technician (Rockford, IL)

Location:

4747 Harrison Ave, Rockford, IL

Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:00pm – 11:30pm (with occasional weekend cover)

Job Overview

Support production and development test labs on 2nd shift at Collins Aerospace, focusing on repair, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex equipment, machinery, and instrumentation to ensure reliable functionality and safety compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Advanced experience in electronic equipment troubleshooting & repair
  • Measure, analyze, and calibrate instrumentation/equipment for setup and check‑out
  • Read, interpret, and create equipment and wiring schematics
  • Understand logic of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems for test or maintenance of parts or systems
  • Sharp electronics soldering experience
  • Perform complex equipment installation and machine set‑up
  • Gather and review data concerning equipment specifications, and company or customer requirements as required
  • Confirm operations according to customer specifications and necessary regulations to ensure production quality
  • Work under minimal supervision to repair, adjust, and maintain complex production equipment, machinery, or instruments to ensure reliable functionality and compliance with process and safety specifications
  • Develop and troubleshoot electrical systems from incomplete information and cooperation with engineering and operators
  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment through ongoing inspection and maintenance
  • Conduct equipment inventories and arrange disposal of obsolete equipment
  • Use and modify advanced electronic software control
  • Maintain and repair motors and drives
  • Troubleshoot and repair advanced printed circuit boards
  • Provide advanced support and complex problem solving for engineering teams
  • Support technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation effectiveness of total systems
  • Provide training to operators and fellow technicians to ensure equipment is being used properly
  • Create procedures and work instructions for operation of equipment, machinery and instruments and identify updates as needed
  • Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs
  • Act as subject‑matter expert on legacy and complex equipment support
Qualifications
  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other two‑year post‑high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of hands‑on relevant experience
  • Certification may be required for technical support roles
  • Experience using electronic measuring equipment (e.g., DMM, Oscilloscope)
  • Experience with data acquisition equipment
  • Experience or certification in soldering
  • Strong understanding of electronic drawings and schematics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • PLC programming experience

Additional Information

Salary range: $66,800 – $127,200 USD. Benefits, training, and compensation vary by business unit and may include additional incentive programs.
