Assembler - Elgin, IL

This 1st shift production assembler role focuses on receiving, testing, refurbishing, assembling, and packing electronic modems through a defined multi-step process. You work on your feet throughout the shift, handle a variety of tasks, and collaborate with team members while being cross-trained across multiple stations to support a high-volume, quality-focused operation.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming modems and accurately document all items received using the required tracking and scanning tools.
  • Perform factory resets by manually activating reset functions according to established procedures.
  • Operate automatic test equipment by plugging in and testing up to 32 units at a time, monitoring test cycles that may run 60–90 minutes, and identifying units that require repair.
  • Conduct Wi‑Fi tests to verify connectivity and performance according to quality standards.
  • Run elevated temperature tests to ensure modems operate correctly under specified conditions.
  • Carry out cosmetic cleaning of modems to meet appearance and cleanliness standards.
  • Perform basic cosmetic repair tasks on housings and external components as required.
  • Support in-process quality control (IPQC) by inspecting units at designated stages and following quality inspection procedures.
  • Assemble and kit components and accessories into complete modem kits according to work instructions.
  • Pack finished products, build pallets, and prepare kits for shipment, including palletizing products for distribution.
  • Use RF scanners to track parts and scan items at every step of the process to maintain accurate inventory and process records.
  • Handle repair and refurbishment activities on electronic assemblies and repair parts as needed.
  • Use basic hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and correctly during assembly and repair tasks.
  • Follow blueprints, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to complete assembly work accurately.
  • Work effectively with team members to meet production goals, maintain workflow, and support cross-functional tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with site safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to support consistent production and team coverage.
  • Participate in cross-training across multiple stations in the 12-step process to provide flexibility and coverage within the production line.

Essential Skills

  • Strong attention to detail to accurately follow procedures, inspect products, and document work.
  • Ability to stand and be on your feet for the entirety of the shift in a production environment.
  • Ability to work well with others and collaborate in a team-based setting.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained and work in various areas of the 12-step production process.
  • Good hand dexterity for handling small parts, assembly tasks, and repair work.
  • Reliability and punctuality to support steady production operations.
  • Experience or comfort with assembly, picking, packing, or general labor in a warehouse or production setting.
  • Capability to perform basic quality inspection tasks and follow quality control guidelines.
  • Ability to use RF scanners or similar devices to scan and track parts throughout the process.
  • Basic computer skills to interact with test equipment and documentation systems.
  • Comfort working with test equipment and following test procedures.
  • Ability to safely use basic power tools and hand tools in an assembly or repair environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in electronic assembly or working with electronic components is beneficial.
  • Experience in repair, refurbishment, or handling repair parts is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with soldering techniques is a plus.
  • Experience reading and following blueprints or technical work instructions is helpful.
  • Previous experience in stock handling, retail, or warehouse operations can be valuable.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, process-driven environment with defined steps and metrics.
  • Ability to adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as the operation grows and evolves.
