A Day in the Life — Three Paths to Make an ImpactCNC Machinist As afternoon turns to evening, you’re setting up a CNC mill for a stainless-steel job. You review the blueprint, load tools, adjust offsets, and verify dimensions. The Fanuc control responds as you dial in the cut, ensuring tight tolerances and a smooth finish before handing off to inspection.
Shift: 2nd (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Pay: $28.00 – $32.00/hr Core work:
Set up and operate CNC milling equipment

Blueprint reading, tooling adjustments, Fanuc controlsCNC Programmer Your morning begins by translating complex part prints into efficient toolpaths. You optimize feeds and speeds, refine strategies, and support the floor as jobs move from CAM to the mill. You partner with machinists to improve cycle times and part quality.
Shift: 1st (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Pay: $35.00 – $40.00/hr Core work:
Create and optimize CNC milling programs
Software:
Feature CAM, Mastercam, Creo, or comparable CAMFocus:
Support machining operations and drive process improvements
Controls Engineer You collaborate with engineering and production to design, troubleshoot, and enhance automation and control systems that power custom packaging lines. Your solutions improve reliability, throughput, and operator experience.
Shift: 1stCompensation: $90,000 – $110,000
