Plastics Press Tooling Set up Technician

A day in the life

You begin your shift by reviewing work instructions, pulling the required mold and auxiliary tools, and hanging and setting up everything the press needs for a smooth production run. With the cell staged and verified, you start the job, fine-tune settings, and keep a close eye on first-off parts.

When something isn’t quite right, you dive into troubleshooting—making adjustments in line with work instructions and best practices. Throughout the run, you ensure the press is operating correctly and promptly communicate any issues to your supervisor.

Between runs, you handle mold tooling inventory control, complete press tear-downs, and follow the mold pull procedure with precision. You keep the area clean, organized, and production-ready, and you record downtime codes and tooling setup details in the ERP system.

What you’ll handle

Hanging and setting up molds and tools to prepare for production

Starting production jobs, making in-process adjustments, and troubleshooting per work instructions

Performing mold tooling inventory control and accurate recordkeeping

Executing press tear-downs and adhering to the mold pull procedure

General shop maintenance, cleaning, and organization

Updating the ERP system with downtime codes and tooling setup details

Monitoring press performance and escalating issues to the supervisor

What you bring

High school diploma, GED, or 12 years of formal education preferred (not required)
Proficiency in injection molding; 5+ years of injection molding experience preferred

Strong mechanical experience and solid basic math skills

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English;
English/Spanish bilingual is a plus Comfort handling physical demands: lift 60+ pounds, climb stairs, and stand for up to 8 hours

Ability to operate a forklift
