Position: Registered Nurse (RN) OPC-Recovery (Pre-op/PACU)

Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) – Out Patient Recovery RN, Pre-op/PACU. Part Time, 20 hours a week. Schedule Monday – Friday: start times vary between 0600–0930 depending on the surgical schedule; typically 8-hour shifts. Schedule operates on an alternating weekly pattern: 2 days one week, 3 days the next. Call required for Saturday rotation 0800–1400 about every 6 weeks.

Location:

Sherman Hospital, Elgin, IL. Level 2 Trauma. ACLS certification preferred or completed during orientation. Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, Tuition Reimbursement on Day 1 of employment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan. Involves patient and family in planning and implements a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
  • Recognizes and responds to significant changes in a patient’s condition; conducts ongoing assessments and collaborates with the care team to adjust plans as needed.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety; educates patients and families as appropriate; tailors teaching to learning needs.
  • Coordinates discharge planning using an interdisciplinary approach and applies evidence-based practice to ensure quality care.
  • Evaluates outcomes and supports process improvements; participates in shared governance initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintains effective communication, provides feedback, resolves conflicts, and demonstrates leadership within the care team; delegates appropriately to unlicensed personnel.
  • Promotes a culture of safety by identifying threats to patient safety and participating in corrective actions.
  • Applies ethical decision making and collaborates with peers and other clinical disciplines to provide unbiased, patient-centered care.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities; attends required meetings and completes annual competencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and understands life-span development to assess patient needs according to department standards.
Liciensure, Registration, and/or Certification
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association
Education Required
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing
Experience Required
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing

  • Proficient computer skills, including electronic medical records systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 20 lbs overhead; carry up to 40 lbs
  • Push/pull with at least 30 lbs of force; perform sliding transfers with assistance as needed
  • Position requires use of foot pedals on carts or machines; exposure to chemicals, hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases with appropriate PPE
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to perform fine motor tasks
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
