Summary of Job

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Team Lead oversees packers to ensure the quality and production deliverables of mailers across multiple production lines meet customer specifications and delivery requirements as well as company standards for quality and operations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Team Lead is responsible for maintaining continuous product quality during production and guiding the workflow by monitoring the packaging workforce’s quality inspections and packaging processes in collaboration with the assigned QA Inspector.

Performs quality inspections at regularly prescribed intervals and documents accordingly across multiple production lines. Helps employees in the department perform their duties correctly and helps the team operate at or above designated run speeds.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Lead team of packers for multiple production lines by monitoring performance and providing direction.
  • Ensure SOPs are followed during the production process.
  • Ensure correct packaging components are in place for each varying job order.
  • Maintain integrity of SAP inventory management system and ensure finished good load flags are placed correctly.
  • Monitor jobs, including packaging, for defects and inaccuracies per TMS quality standards; correct and report any non-conformities and initiate hold procedures when needed.
  • Collaborate with assigned QA Inspector throughout the shift as needed.
  • Ensure packer rotations and breaks occur per company policies.
  • Work with Production Supervisor to determine manning schedules and overtime allocations.
  • Accurately update the upcoming shift to ensure a smooth shift handoff; communicate regularly with staff to minimize delays.
  • Train packers on Quality Assurance (QA) SOP; regularly conduct audits to ensure quality inspections are being performed.
  • Work with Quality Manager, Inspectors and Operations to resolve issues per QA SOPs.
  • Perform 6S and SOP audits regularly as required.
  • Help identify raw material defects, capture relevant information (lot codes, samples, etc.) and forward to Quality Manager.
Physical Characteristics
  • Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, up to 75%
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 45 lbs)
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding/preparing documents, as needed
  • Exposure to moving equipment
  • Humidity may exceed 80%
Education and Experience
  • High school education or equivalent technical school preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (Spanish bilingual a plus).
  • Ability to direct a team of employees and facilitate compliance with workplace policies, procedures and rules.

  • Ability to take coaching well and interact respectfully with others.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to delegate, plan, and schedule accordingly.
  • Must be flexible with work scheduling as well as overtime availability.
  • Ability to understand detailed written and/or oral instructions.

  • Ability to read a ruler, scale, and micrometer.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed daily, or weekends based upon business needs.
