Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Master Technician role based in the Greater Chicago Area. The Master Technician is responsible for performing complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles, including engines, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems. This role conducts thorough inspections, identifies root causes of issues, and completes repairs according to manufacturer and company standards while maintaining accurate documentation.
The Master Technician supports less-experienced technicians by providing guidance, mentoring, and quality checks on completed work. The role also involves communicating clearly with service advisors, following safety procedures, using diagnostic tools and service information systems, and helping ensure a positive experience for every customer.
Qualifications
- Advanced automotive diagnostic and repair skills across major systems (engine, transmission, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, HVAC).
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and service information systems, including the ability to interpret technical data and repair procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to performing accurate, high-quality work in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to collaborate with service advisors and support junior technicians through coaching and guidance.
- Thorough understanding of shop safety practices, OSHA guidelines, and proper use of tools and equipment.
- ASE certifications (Master Technician status preferred) or equivalent professional credentials; willingness to maintain and expand certifications.
- Previous experience as an automotive technician, preferably in a high-volume or dealership/service center environment.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to operate a variety of vehicles.
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal automotive training or technical school education is a plus.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the role, including standing for extended periods and safely lifting and moving automotive components.
