Waste Connections is hiring a PM Mechanic to perform preventive and minor corrective maintenance on a fleet of refuse and recycling trucks. In this role, you'll inspect vehicles, complete scheduled services, identify needed repairs, and document work in our maintenance system. You'll work closely with drivers and supervisors to ensure equipment safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Ideal candidates bring strong mechanical skills, experience with diesel or heavy trucks, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship in a fast-paced, team-focused shop.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on refuse and recycling trucks and related equipment
- Inspect vehicles for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
- Identify, document, and report needed corrective repairs
- Complete minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs as assigned
- Use diagnostic tools and manuals to troubleshoot common issues
- Accurately record work performed in maintenance and work order systems
- Collaborate with drivers and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop work area
- Support continuous improvement of maintenance processes and reliability
Required Skills
- Preventive maintenance on heavy trucks and equipment
- Diesel engine repair
- Hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair
- Brake and suspension systems service
- Electrical and diagnostic systems (scan tools, schematics)
- Welding and fabrication basics
- CMMS or maintenance work order systems
- Safety and OSHA compliance in shop environment
- Reading technical manuals and service bulletins
- DOT inspections and recordkeeping
