Research Associate, Python, Data Scientist

Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL is looking for Research Associates. A qualified applicant will:

• Design, implement, and maintain internal web-based basemap and mapping services utilizing Open Street Map  Data, Tile Server GL, PostGIS, Map Libre GL, RESTful API, Python, WebGIS, React-Map-GL, ArcGIS, and spatial modeling.
• Provide reusable geospatial services and APIs to support other enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping applications.
• Design, develop, and enhance offline geocoding services using open-source geocoding frameworks.
• Develop internal routing, travel-time estimation, and route optimization applications to support spatial accessibility and transportation analysis.
• Develop WebGIS applications and spatial analysis tools using DuckDB and PostGIS to enable efficient querying, processing, and visualization of large-scale geospatial datasets.
• Produce customized thematic maps and spatial visualizations using ArcGIS Pro to support research, operational analysis, and decision-making.

• Master's Degree or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Engineering.
• One year experience in IT field or research assistance.
• Experience with Open Street Map , ArcGIS, RESTful API, Python, WebGIS, and spatial modeling.

Salary: $85,000 to $95,000.
