The Dispatch Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Elgin, IL, responsible for managing daily freight movement and supporting drivers throughout their routes. This position coordinates load assignments, schedules pick-ups and deliveries, and ensures accurate, timely communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams. The Dispatch Coordinator monitors route progress, updates systems with current status information, and resolves schedule changes, delays, or issues as they arise.
The role includes maintaining detailed records, verifying documentation, and collaborating with operations to optimize fleet utilization and on-time performance. The coordinator also assists with after-hours coverage as needed and contributes to continuous improvement of dispatch processes.
- Strong skills in scheduling, route planning, and coordinating multiple trucks and loads in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with dispatch or transportation management systems, GPS tracking tools, and basic office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets).
- Effective communication and customer service skills to interact with drivers, customers, and internal teams in a professional manner.
- Ability to analyze information, solve problems quickly, and make sound decisions under time pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Experience in trucking, logistics, or freight operations is preferred; prior dispatch experience is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in logistics or transportation is beneficial.
- Ability to work on-site in Elgin, IL and maintain reliable attendance, including occasional extended or flexible hours.
