College of The Albemarle welcomes applications from individuals interested in an adjunct (part-time) Instructor, Human Resources Development position. Part-time and/or substitute instructor appointments are made on a semester-by-semester and/or as needed basis. Positions are not benefit eligible. The candidate should have the ability to accommodate a flexible working schedule and limited travel within the service area. This job posting will serve as a pool of applicants from which the hiring manager may consult as needs arise.

The role of the part-time Instructor, Human Resources Development (HRD) is to provide quality instruction in the HRD, employability skills training program at onsite and offsite COA campus locations. HRD courses are held predominately for the unemployed, underemployed or recently laid off and can include classes in employability skills, career planning and assessment, career readiness, technology awareness, employability motivation and retention and economic literacy.
The PT Instructor, HRD receives supervision from the Dean, Workforce Development, Public Services and Career Readiness and Compliance Services Coordinator/Supervisor, (WDCR).
* Teach classes and instruct students who are unemployed or underemployed in all areas of job search preparation.
* Prepare lesson plans, lectures, course overviews and course syllabi.
* Select appropriate learning material for assigned classes.
* Responsible for starting classes, preparing attendance roster and adhering to attendance class polices.
* Maintain professionalism as a representative of he College.
* Communicates regularly with the Dean, Workforce Development, Public Services and Career Readiness.
* Participate and make recommendations for any development of new course materials with the Dean, Workforce Development, Public Services and Career Readiness.
* Maintain all paperwork required for program and courses.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Required:
* Associate Degree in Human Resource Development, or related discipline.
* Two years of previous experience and/or training that includes teaching in an adult educational setting.
Desired:
* Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Development or related discipline.
Knowledge of:
* The community college system and a commitment to its mission.
* COA's mission and a commitment to it.
Ability to:
* Demonstrate competence in areas expected to teach.
* Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and basic math reasoning.
* Plan, organize and instruct quality educational programs.
* Communicate effectively, written and orally, with adult learners and to maintain good relationships with staff and students.
* Exercise individual initiative, independent actions, and sound judgment.
* Use a computer efficiently, especially standard office software
* Obtain the Career Readiness Certificate.
