Elizabeth City State University seeks a world-class scholar to fill an endowed distinguished professorship in the Department of English, History, and Interdisciplinary Studies. The individual holding the endowed professorship is expected to make significant contributions to public service and enhance the quality of life in northeastern North Carolina using English as a strategic focus.

Elizabeth City State University seeks a world-class scholar to fill an endowed distinguished professorship in the Department of English, History, and Interdisciplinary Studies. The individual holding the endowed professorship is expected to make significant contributions to public service and enhance the quality of life in northeastern North Carolina using English as a strategic focus.

The successful candidate will exemplify the civic values of Winne

E. Wood, one of the area's most revered citizens and long-time supporter of ECSU. The Wood Endowed Distinguished Professor will provide the strategic planning necessary to develop and enhance the quality of the undergraduate experience in community engagement.

The successful candidate will provide for the sustainability of a vision of excellence using the liberal arts for engaging the community. Qualified candidates for the position must have outstanding leadership skills as demonstrated by exemplary service in one or more significant positions of leadership in an academic, community, business, or government organization.

This position will teach three courses per semester in English advancing an understanding of sustainability for the liberal arts and programs to address the needs and aspirations of people of northeastern North Carolina. Solicit external funding in support of liberal arts or related areas for activities in teaching, public service, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The position may also provide academic advisement, aid in the recruitment of students, contribute to curriculum design and modification, and engage in research/scholarly activities and university service.

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

Distinguished record of grantsmanship, publications, creative activities, and other scholarship in English or related areas.

Demonstrated leadership in the development of interdisciplinary collaboration.

History of effective classroom teaching for highly motivated, nontraditional, and diverse students.

History of effective participations in alliances with businesses, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and arts communities wherein a liberal arts education is applied to address real world problems.

Demonstrated pursuit of projects at the cutting-edge of educational development and research in English, African American Literature, or related areas, including the integration of online and hybrid learning models.

Demonstrated use of technology in course development, including the implementation of online learning platforms and digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in an interdisciplinary university setting with a professionally diverse faculty.
