The Qualified Assistant will report directly to the School Director for Law Enforcement Training Programs or designee. A qualified assistant shall be designated to assist the School Director in the administration of all courses related to Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and Advanced Law Enforcement Training. This position will also serve as the BLET Direct Designee as necessary.

* Assist BLET Director or Law Enforcement Programs with program clerical work: maintaining records and completing reports.

* As directed by the School Director, the Qualified Assistant shall assist in the planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering of Commission-mandated training courses as outlined in 12 NCAC 09B.0202

* Work with the Director of BLET to formalize and schedule the course curriculum in accordance with the curriculum standards, including selection and scheduling of other qualified instructors who are properly certified by the commission. Provide each instructor with a current commission-approved course lesson plan and other instructional materials.

* Provide assistance or assume lead, as needed, to monitor the presentations of other instructors during the course delivery, instruct during course delivery and prepare, review and administer appropriate tests. Assist the School Director of BLET in reporting the completion of each commission accredited criminal justice training course to the commission.

* Assume responsibility for the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program in the absence of the School Director.

* A Qualified Assistant may be responsible for opening and closing facilities as needed.

* Required to attend all required training, meetings and the BLET graduations.

* Perform light maintenance, stocking of equipment and supplies, inventorying and cleaning/caring for the equipment.

* Support the Director of BLET with regular communication with area Law Enforcement agencies to ascertain needs for in-service and advanced training.

* Assist the Director of BLET in the hiring of instructors who are certified or credentialed according to requirements.

* Assist the Director to provide oversight and support for Law Enforcement (LE) In-Service training offerings and schedule.

* Assist in the maintenance of all course records courses according to NCCCS requirements and commission standards.

* Provide course instruction for curriculum and continuing education courses as directed by the School Director.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

To be eligible to serve as a Qualified Assistant, an applicant shall:

Required per 12 NCAC 09B.0504:

* Be selected and hired by the School Director.

* Hold a current General Instructor certification as issued by the NCCJ Education and Training Standards Commission.

* Min. High school diploma or equivalent.

* Valid Driver's license.

* In addition to the requirements identified in this Paragraph to qualify for certification as a Qualified Assistant in the presentation of the Criminal Justice Instructor Training Course, an applicant shall document completion of the Instructor Training Orientation presented by the North Carolina Justice Academy on delivery of instructor training course and student evaluations.

* Must be able to lift 50 pounds. (COA requirement)

Desired:

* Associated Degree from a regionally accredited college or university (Criminal Justice, Public Safety or related field)

* Four years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer or as an administrator or specialist in a field directly related to the criminal justice system;

* One year related work experience in administering education training programs in public safety related fields.

* Additional Law Enforcement certifications and specialized training

* Have Physical Fitness, CCT or LE Drivers Training certifications

Once hired, must complete the following:

* Attend or have attended the most current offering of the Qualified Assistant's orientation as developed and presented by the Commission staff;

* Submit a Form F-10 School Director/Qualified Assistant application to the Commission for the issuance of such certification.

* Ability to balance competing priorities; use a computer efficiently, especially standard office software.

* Knowledge of the community college system and a commitment to its mission.

* Possess excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills.

The salary range posted for this position represents the full approved salary range.  Initial salary placement typically falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is determined by the College based on the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary considerations.
