College of The Albemarle welcomes applications from individuals interested in a part-time Peer Tutor position.  Part-time appointments are made on a semester-by-semester and/or as needed basis.  Positions are not benefit eligible. This job posting will serve as a pool of applicants from which the hiring manager may consult as needs arise.

The role of the Peer Tutor is to provide tutorial assistance to students of the college to increase their success. Tutors work with individuals or groups, using previous knowledge and strategies from training, to enhance a student's understanding of material and encourage them to become an independent learner.

Peer Tutor receive supervision from the Academic Support, Tutoring, and Testing Center Coordinator.

* Implement various learning strategies in one-to-one and group tutoring sessions.

* Maintain open communication with the Academic Support, Tutoring, and Testing Center Coordinator.

* Assess needs of students.

* Record time of  tutoring sessions and materials covered and note outcomes. Discuss concerns and/or problems with the Academic Support, Tutoring, and Testing Center Coordinator.

* Present summaries on student's status/accomplishments and complete evaluations.

* Participate in staff training and development activities.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

* Complete an application for the Academic Support Center Tutoring Program.

* Have received an A or B in the class that he/she wants to tutor. May also have tested out of a class in place of an A or B grade.

* Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Knowledge of:

* The goals, regulations and requirements of the Academic Support Center Tutoring Program and the college.

Ability to:

* Effectively understand and meet the needs of students.

* Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students.

* Work as a team member or independently.

* Communicate clearly and concisely , both orally and in writing.

* Plan, organize and document tutoring sessions.
