- Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) certification
- NIHSS certification
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical‑surgical or general inpatient units. Responsibilities include frequent monitoring, specialized nursing interventions, medication administration, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Essential Work Functions- Monitors cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments, focusing on cardiac care
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during cardiac‑related procedures
- Maintains patient comfort and safety needs, including telemetry patients
- Observes patients, records significant status changes, and notifies physician or supervisor of cardiac conditions and responses to interventions
- Responds to life‑saving situations per protocols for cardiac emergencies
- Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned telemetry patients
- Initiates patient education plans regarding cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team for comprehensive care
- Maintains confidentiality of patients and client data
- Performs other duties within scope of practice
- Adheres to safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication
- English literacy and communication abilities
- PC proficiency and ability to read/comprehend written instructions
- Physical capabilities: stationary or moving positions, moving equipment (50‑100 lb), pushing, pulling, bending
- Interpersonal: collaborate effectively with diverse staff, maintain positive attitude
- Technical: fine manipulation, push/pull, equipment operation
- Mental: cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, occasional close supervision
