Correctional Lieutenant III

Position Overview

Correctional Lieutenant III (S) – Grade NC11 – located at Greene Correctional Institution, a minimum custody facility housing 656 offenders.

This position provides supervision for subordinate staff, conducts shift line‑up, assigns duties, inspects all personnel for physical and mental fitness for assignment, and manages time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms.

Accountable for persons and funds, ensures all assigned equipment is operationally ready, identifies training needs, coordinates training delivery, investigates incidents, develops prison operational and emergency plans, and prepares post orders.

• Supervise subordinate staff and conduct shift line‑up and make‑shift assignments.
• Inspect personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
• Complete, review and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and other administrative forms.
• Account for persons and funds; ensure all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
• Identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to subordinate staff.
• Conduct investigations and develop prison operational and emergency plans.
• Prepare and maintain post orders.
• Report or stay over during adverse weather events (mandatory).

• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
• Must pass a criminal background check and produce a negative drug screening result.
• Must successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Eligibility for high school or GED diploma plus three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant; or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred: documented supervisory skills in a prison facility, knowledge of facility operations, knowledge of prisons’ policy and procedures, documented report‑writing skills, and knowledge of prison’s policy and procedures.
