Shipco Transport Inc., a leading international cargo transportation company, has an immediate opening at our GSG branch located in Elizabeth, NJ for an experienced Import Supervisor.
The Import Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily import operations of the Global Solutions Group, which provides white-label services on behalf of our customers. This role ensures shipments are managed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with each customer's specific procedures and service requirements.
The Import Supervisor will lead the operations team, monitor service performance, resolve escalated issues, and ensure all customer communication reflects the customer's brand and standards. The position requires strong operational knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple customer programs with different processes and expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the daily activities and workload of the import operations team.
- Ensure shipments are handled according to customer-specific SOPs, service requirements, and agreed timelines.
- Maintain the integrity of the white-label service by ensuring communication and documentation are presented under the customer's name and according to their standards.
- Monitor shipment milestones, documentation, customs clearance, delivery coordination, and final billing.
- Review operational reports and follow up on shipments requiring immediate attention.
- Serve as the first point of escalation for service issues, delays, customer concerns, and operational exceptions.
- Work closely with overseas offices, agents, carriers, customs brokers, truckers, warehouses, and internal departments.
- Provide timely updates to customers and ensure communication is accurate, consistent, and professional.
- Monitor team performance, productivity, quality, and compliance with established procedures.
- Train and support team members and ensure proper coverage during absences or periods of high volume.
- Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, service quality, and consistency.
- Support the implementation and onboarding of new white-label customer programs.
- Ensure customer rates, billing instructions, and financial requirements are followed accurately.
- Review profit and loss exceptions, unbilled files, accruals, and vendor invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain complete and accurate shipment records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable import regulations, company policies, and customer confidentiality requirements.
- Work with management to address recurring operational issues and improve the overall customer experience.
- Strong knowledge of import freight forwarding operations.
- Previous supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple customer accounts with different procedures and priorities.
