Assistant Teacher

Position Summary
The Assistant Teacher supports the instructional and supervisory responsibilities of the classroom by assisting with daily operations and student engagement. This role is integral to maintaining a safe, structured, and nurturing environment within a before- and after-school program, as well as seasonal summer programming.
The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with staff to promote student engagement, social-emotional development, and positive behavior in alignment with program expectations.
Program
Hours:
- Before Care: 7:30 AM – 8:15 AM
- After Care: 3:05PM – 5:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Support child engagement, classroom organization, and daily program activities.
- Provide consistent supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes pro-social behavior and student engagement.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff.
- Implement behavior management strategies aligned with program philosophy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
- Participate in required staff meetings, training, and school events.
- Complete a minimum of 12 hours of annual professional development, including required orientation training.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations outlined in the New Jersey Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support program

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must complete Child Abuse Record Information Background Check.
- Must complete a Criminal History Record Information Background Check.
- Must Complete a Mandated 10 hour Health and Safety Training
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred and Internet Applications.

Qualifications
- EDUCATION/
EXPERIENCE:
Must Have one of the following - High School Diploma
- Para Pro Certificate (preferred)
- PEDIATRIC/CPR First Aide Certified
Pay Rate
USD $16.00 - USD $18.00 /Hr.
Physical Requirements
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Light lifting, walking, climbing stairs.
