Overview
Education Through Music is a non‑profit organization that partners with New York City public schools to place music teachers and programs back into school curricula. We support teachers who are not yet certified, help them build programs, and eventually have them hired by the Department of Education (DOE). We serve all five boroughs and provide music education to over 18,000 children.
Responsibilities- Serve as school music faculty.
- Coordinate and develop in‑school music programs with program staff.
- Produce two school‑wide concerts each year.
- Attend and assist in school‑wide functions such as assemblies, graduations, and after‑school activities.
- Plan and sequence lessons comprehensively.
- Reflect, implement, and improve existing processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Arts, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of teaching groups of up to 30 children in an organization or other employer (private self‑employed lessons do not qualify).
- Ability to model quality singing in front of children.
- Strong musical knowledge and knowledge of musical pedagogy practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- Certified to teach in New York or another state.
- 3–5 years of experience teaching in New York City public schools.
- Skills in singing, conducting, keyboard, guitar, and presentation.
- Experience teaching band, orchestra, modern band, and choir.
- Comfort with music technology software such as Soundtrap.
Physical requirements:
ability to walk up several flights of stairs and lift up to 15 lbs of equipment.
- 12‑month year‑round payroll.

$56,051 – $66,644 per year.
Eligibility and Employment PoliciesApplicants must have authorized work status in the United States without sponsorship and will undergo fingerprinting and background check if not already cleared by the NYC DOE. H1B sponsorship is not available.
