Program Services - Teacher

Responsible for developing and implementing Independent Living Skills curriculum for members and maintaining accurate records of their progress. Participate with members during recreational, educational, and vocational programming & activities. Ensure a safe and supportive environment through counseling, crisis management, & supervision of members. Provide teaching support to youth residing at Shelter program.

Minimum of three years’ experience working with people with disabilities, BA/BS degree in special education, psychology, social work, or related field required. Teacher’s certification. Experience in providing employment support preferable.

• Ability to maintain appropriate relationships with people with disabilities and at-risk adolescents utilizing normalization principles
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of CAU staff, members’ families, and within the community
• Ability to express oneself, both in writing and verbally, in a professional and comprehensive manner
• Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills with proactive approach
• Working knowledge of computer office software programs including Microsoft Office
• Ability to deliver effective presentations and training programs to members, staff, and outside consumers
• Ability to be resourceful and work independently with in agency guidelines to meet deadlines
• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and calculations
• Ability to accommodate last minute scheduling needs to ensure the safety of the program
• Ability to professionally and resourcefully resolve issues regarding community based resources
• Legally registered/insured automobile, valid driver’s license, and safe driving record required at all times
