Part-Time Children’s Library Assistant – Elizabeth Public Library

About the Position:

The Elizabeth Public Library is seeking a part-time library assistant to join our Children’s Department. The ideal candidate will be flexible, enjoy working with kids and tweens, and be enthusiastic about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the youth of Elizabeth.

Responsibilities:

• Staff the Children’s Services desk and provide excellent customer service to patrons.
• Engage with children in the library’s children’s space.
• Assist with planning and implementing programs and displays.
• Create programming flyers
• Provide reader’s advisory and basic reference assistance
• Assist with collection maintenance, including shelving and discarding materials
• Troubleshoot library technology, including computers and tablets.

Qualifications:

• Enjoys working with children and creating a welcoming, comfortable environment.
• Knowledge of or interest in children's literature, pop culture, and current trends.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Previous experience working with youth, whether paid or volunteer, is highly desirable.

Schedule:
This position will be at 19 hours per week, and may include mornings, nights, and weekends.
