Position OverviewCape Elizabeth High School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered, full-time Long-Term Substitute English Teacherto join our faculty for an upcoming leave from October 26 through December 22.
Key Responsibilities- Instruction & Curriculum:
Teach high school English courses, incorporating classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction, analytical writing, and media literacy/film study. - Classroom Engagement:
Foster positive, respectful relationships with high school students while maintaining structured classroom management and high expectations. - Collaboration:
Work closely and collectively with English department colleagues and school staff to align instructional goals, grading practices, and student supports. - Student Assessment:
Prepare and implement thoughtful assignments/assessments, provide prompt and constructive feedback on student writing and projects, and maintain accurate academic records.
- Certification:
State of Maine English/Language Arts (7?12) Teacher Certification (7-12 / 020) preferred. - Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a closely related field. - Experience:
Previous successful teaching experience at the high school level is strongly preferred. - Subject Matter Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of literary analysis, writing pedagogy, and contemporary educational practices.
- Demonstrated interest and background in classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction analysis, and film study/visual media literacy.
- Professional Attributes:
Excellent communication, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative, student-first mindset.
