We're conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established, rapidly growing engineering and consulting firm seeking an experienced Director of Building Envelope to lead and expand its Building Envelope practice in New Jersey.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) with deep expertise in building envelope systems, structural rehabilitation, and existing building investigations who is ready to take on a high-impact leadership role.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with project leadership, client relationship management, and team development. You'll oversee complex façade, roofing, waterproofing, balcony, and structural rehabilitation projects while helping drive the continued growth of an expanding practice.
What You'll LeadAs Director of Building Envelope, you'll oversee projects from initial investigation through design, construction administration, and successful project completion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead engineering evaluations of roofing systems, façades, balconies, decks, waterproofing assemblies, and structural components.
- Direct building envelope investigations, forensic assessments, and condition evaluations for existing buildings.
- Develop repair strategies, technical reports, engineering drawings, specifications, and rehabilitation solutions.
- Provide technical oversight during construction, including field observations, submittal reviews, RFIs, change orders, payment applications, and project closeout.
- Ensure projects meet applicable building codes, industry standards, and quality expectations.
- Review project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining technical excellence.
- Mentor engineers and technical staff while supporting internal QA/QC initiatives.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and practical engineering solutions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients throughout the project lifecycle.
This role extends beyond project execution and offers the opportunity to influence the continued growth of a thriving Building Envelope division.
You'll:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, property managers, consultants, and contractors.
- Participate in networking events, industry organizations, technical seminars, and continuing education programs.
- Help identify new business opportunities and support strategic growth initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of best practices, technical standards, and team mentorship.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license required.
- 10+ years of experience in building envelope consulting, structural engineering, façade restoration, or rehabilitation of existing buildings.
- Extensive experience evaluating and designing repairs for roofing, façades, waterproofing systems, balconies, decks, and structural components.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing engineering reports and repair recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects while leading technical teams.
- Thorough understanding of IBC, IRC, and related building codes and industry standards.
- IIBEC certifications (RRC, RWC, RBEC, RRO) or ICC certifications are highly valued.
- OSHA-10 certification preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD and technical specification writing (CSI Master Spec) is a plus.
- Master's degree is beneficial but not required.

Physical Requirements
This role includes regular site visits and field investigations. Candidates should be comfortable accessing rooftops, scaffolding, ladders, confined spaces, and active construction sites while working outdoors in varying weather conditions and lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.
