Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitThe primary purpose of this University Police Department is to enforce local and state laws, and to protect lives and university property; patrol the campus, to prevent crimes through high visibility; to investigate crimes occurring on the campus and to respond to emergency situations. Sworn officers within the police department have the powers and authority vested in peace officers as authorized by the General Statutes of North Carolina.
Such powers and authorities are granted for the purpose of enforcing North Carolina state laws, 74G, preserving peace at the University, suppressing disturbances, preventing crimes, and apprehending offenders.
Multiple temporary assignments may be filled from this posting.
This position is responsible for the operations of the emergency communications center, whereby s/he answers telephone calls and disseminates information to appropriate persons. The employee will: dispatch calls for service to police officers, security officers and emergency medical services; enter data accurately, correctly and timely into the records management system; and maintain confidentiality of all information obtained from the Division of Criminal Information database.
The employee must become DCIN certified within ninety (90) days of employment and obtain a working knowledge of the Clery Act as it relates to being a Campus Security Authority and the required emergency notifications/timely warnings.
