Union Vicinage is seeking a Pretrial Services Specialist to assist in pretrial risk assessment and case management, ensuring the safety of the public and supporting court appearance compliance.
SalarySalary range for this position is $61,749.69 to $ for Schedule A, and $61,749.69 to $95,146.95 for Schedule
B. Newly hired individuals normally start at the minimum of the range; current Judiciary employees receive a promotion increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range.
Hybrid work schedule available; qualification may allow up to two days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings. In addition to a multifactor authentication app, high‑speed home internet is required.
Responsibilities- Research criminal case histories and conduct pretrial risk assessments.
- Prepare reports and recommend conditions of pretrial release to judges.
- Staff first appearance/Central Judicial Processing hearings and pretrial detention hearings.
- Monitor conditions of pretrial release for higher‑risk defendants, assist defendants with goal attainment, and report non‑compliance to court.
- Provide guidance to clients with social, emotional, and rehabilitative concerns; recommend referrals, testing, and treatment; monitor treatment progress.
- Assist supervisors with training and mentoring of Pretrial Services staff and with stakeholder and community outreach.
- Work a non‑traditional schedule, including weekends, holidays, late nights, and after‑hours on‑call responsibilities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college® or university and at least two years of professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case‑related information with judgment and discretion.
- Experience coordinating with judges and/or attorneys to resolve case issues and preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
- Substitution options: an associate degree plus two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience; a master’s degree may substitute one year of experience.
- For bilingual variant titles, pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission BICAT performance examination or prove bilingual proficiency approved by the Commission.
- Capability to climb, stand, stretch, bend, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing 30–50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Physical and cognitive ability to perform the aforementioned tasks.
Required only if operation of a vehicle is essential to perform essential duties.
Authorization to WorkUS citizenship is not required; must be authorized to work in the United States under DHS/USCIS regulations.
Residency LawNewly hired employees must establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year. Exemptions may be granted on hardship or employer critical‑need basis.
