The Food Service Worker is responsible for serving meals to patients in a professional, efficient manner, explaining the room service meal ordering process, providing a menu based on diet prescription, and evaluating a patient’s capability to utilize the room service system. The position also assists patients with meal orders, verifies that all patients have ordered and received meals, communicates when a patient is refusing meals, picks up trays after meals, and brings trucks back to the kitchen.

• Fluent in English speaking, reading, and writing
• Good communication skills and people friendly
• Must be detail-oriented, open, and willing to learn
• Flexible hours, available holidays and weekends
• Able to move small and large food service trucks around

• High school diploma or equivalent, or two-year associate degree preferred

• Part-Time evenings

• Collects the final tray list for assigned patient units from Communication center clerk for each meal
• Checks meal delivery trucks for supplies/condiments
• Serves meals to patients in a professional, efficient manner and checks patient's wristband for identification
• Visits new admissions or changed diets; explains room service meal process and gives menu to match the diet order
• Visits diabetic patients and assures meals ordered and delivered per medication policy
• Assesses patient's ability to utilize room service and follows up with nurse/dietitian if unable to participate
• Assists patients in ordering meals when requested, offers pre-select meal sheets choice to patient/family and collects the same for communication center to process meal
• Collects dirty tray from patient's room into the truck and brings truck to dish room after each meal time
• Processes diet requisition retrieved from nursing stations
• Delivers between meal nourishments to patients
• Mediates patients concerns regarding meal service
• Acts as liaison between food & nutrition department, the patient and the nursing staff
• Takes ownership of a problem and ensures a positive outcome
• Assists supervisor in portioning food, coffee or silverware
• Serves as a quality assurance control point for every aspect of the room service program
• Checks off patient’s name on Tray List upon tray delivery and records time of delivery
• Performs other duties as assigned
• All hourly employees are to work every other weekend
• All part time positions are hired for variable shifts
