Job Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will provide Basic Life Support (BLS) services to patients.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts self in a professional, dignified, and compassionate manner at all times
  • Communicates clearly in English, both written and verbal
  • Notifies Supervisor of deficiencies regarding maintenance, equipment, or supplies
  • Notifies Supervisor immediately of unusual circumstances
  • Provides treatment in accordance with established patient care protocols
  • Operates department vehicles in compliance with NJ Motor Vehicle Laws and MH driving policies
  • Completes department-specific continuing programs in addition to state requirements
  • Completes patient care documentation in accordance with MH Documentation Procedure
  • Interacts professionally with partners, patients, management, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel, and other healthcare providers
  • Performs routine duties to stay safe and facilitate patient care
  • Completes vehicle inspection forms and maintenance requests; submits required certifications on time; remains compliant with hospital Employee Health requirements (e.g., TB testing, N95 fit testing); completes hospital-required processes such as annual self-evaluations and employee engagement surveys timely
  • Performs other duties as required or requested by MH management
Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Driver's License and meet vehicle insurance requirements
  • New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, or National Registry EMT Certification
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider (CPR)
  • Hazmat Awareness Certification
  • ICS 100, 200, and NIMS 700, 800
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction or CBRNE Awareness training

Preferred:

  • PHTLS/ITLS
  • Associate Degree

Certifications and Licenses

Required:

  • New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, or National Registry EMT Certification
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider (CPR)
  • Hazmat Awareness Certification
  • ICS 100, 200, and NIMS 700, 800
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction or CBRNE Awareness training
Essential Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned
Scheduling Requirements
  • Per Diem — provide 10 shifts of availability and work 6 shifts over 3 months; must cover at least one summer and one winter holiday and 2 weekend shifts; minimum shifts tied to home region
  • Part Time — two regularly scheduled shifts per week (total 4 shifts over 2 weeks), with at least 2 weekend shifts
  • Full Time — 3 shifts per week with weekend requirements in the region; rotating Pitman schedule
