This leader will play a key enterprise role partnering with the Health System’s executive, technical, clinical, and compliance stakeholders to shape and advance a unified approach to data and AI governance. The position is responsible for building alignment, driving execution, and guiding responsible use of data and AI across the organization. The role also includes oversight of a small team focused on governance operations, policy development, and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Governance Strategy
- Define and evolve a data and AI governance program that supports the Health System’s priorities, operating model, and long-term strategic objectives.
- Regularly assess governance effectiveness and recommend enhancements as business needs, regulations, and technology capabilities change.
Governance Leadership & Structure
- Lead enterprise governance forums and working groups, ensuring the right stakeholders are engaged and decision-making is efficient.
- Develop governance artifacts such as operating procedures, charters, decision logs, and documentation standards.
Decision Enablement & Alignment
- Create practical frameworks that help stakeholders evaluate options, risks, and impacts to support timely and consistent decisions.
- Facilitate collaboration and alignment across diverse groups including clinical, IT, legal, research, privacy, and security teams.
Execution & Program Delivery
- Convert governance outcomes into actionable initiatives, roadmaps, and deliverables, ensuring progress is tracked and outcomes are achieved.
- Step in directly to complete hands-on governance work when needed to keep initiatives moving forward.
Policy, Standards, and Oversight
- Guide the development and implementation of governance policies and standards related to:
- Data quality and integrity
- Privacy, security, and access controls
- AI review, validation, and ongoing monitoring
- Ethical AI practices and accountability
- Stewardship, metadata, and data cataloging
- Vendor and third-party data/AI risk management
Stakeholder Partnership
- Build strong working relationships with senior leaders and subject matter experts across security, privacy, clinical informatics, research, compliance, and operations.
- Serve as a strategic advisor on governance maturity, industry direction, and emerging best practices.
Metrics, Reporting, and Transparency
- Establish reporting and dashboards to monitor governance performance, policy adoption, risks, and program progress.
- Provide regular updates and insights to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, and grow a governance team while fostering a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
- Develop training and awareness initiatives to improve understanding of governance expectations, data responsibilities, and AI risks/limitations across the Health System.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in areas such as data governance, AI governance, data management, analytics/ML programs, or related healthcare technology functions.
- Proven experience leading teams and managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong working knowledge of governance frameworks, data quality practices, privacy/security principles, and responsible AI concepts.
- Understanding of healthcare data ecosystems, including EMR platforms (especially Epic) and downstream integrations.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and ability to manage multiple priorities in parallel.
