Position: Adult Education Data Intern (Unpaid)

Overview

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well‑being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. The Adult Education Data Intern will gain hands‑on experience collecting qualitative and quantitative data, managing and analyzing it, performing data‑entry tasks using IRC’s Efforts to Outcome (ETO) and the New Jersey Office of Refugee (NJOR)’s Client Track (CT) systems, and developing operational workflows with Power Automate to enhance data‑collection efficiency.

Scope

of Intern Work

The intern will support newly arrived refugees and immigrants by providing holistic services through the Adult Education Department, contributing to their resettlement and success in new communities.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in ETO and CT training to learn how to use the platforms efficiently.
  • Record English Language Training (ELT) program related case notes, including attendance records, assessment records, and other case management notes on ETO.
  • Record ELT project enrollment notes on ETO and CT.
  • Record case notes for other education programs under the Adult Education Department.
  • Perform data entries, file, and assemble information for comprehensive reports in the internal databases (ETO), Client Track (CT) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Create, collect, and analyze course feedback surveys.
  • Assist in creating semi‑annual and annual reports in Microsoft Excel.
  • Verify and correct data discrepancies or errors to ensure data quality.
  • Utilize Power Automate to build new workflows for the Adult Education Department.
  • Use PowerBI for data analysis to increase program quality and impact.
  • Organize and maintain files and records.
  • Support other assigned tasks for the adult education department.
Learning Objectives
  • Gain proficiency in using various funder‑mandated databases to collect and evaluate data related to the resettlement outcomes of IRC clients, with a particular focus on Education.
  • Gain firsthand experience in the development of systems to maximize operational effectiveness.
  • Learn organizational communication and time‑management skills.
Requirements
  • Must be based in the United States, be a U.S. citizen or have U.S. work authorization, and be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a post‑secondary institution.
  • Graduate or undergraduate students passionate about data management or holding a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience or willingness to learn Microsoft systems, including Power Automate and PowerBI.
  • Preferable experience using Box and Microsoft Apps such as Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, confidence, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Patience, understanding, flexibility, and a consistently positive attitude.
  • Willingness to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.
  • Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
Compensation

Posted pay ranges apply to US‑based candidates. Exact offers are calibrated by location, individual experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

Benefits

United States benefits include 10 sick days, 10 U.S. holidays, 20‑25 paid time off days depending on role and tenure, medical insurance at $163 per month, dental at $6.50 per month, vision at $5 per month, FSA for healthcare and commuter costs, a 403(b) retirement savings plan with immediately vested matching, disability and life insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program for staff and families.
