- The primary responsibility is to define strategy to achieve annual goals for the NY/NJ Area.
- Develop and lead the 5‑Year Strategic Vision & Planning and Annual Plan, aligning with budgeting.
- Identify and expand markets, proposing strategic investments and hires.
- Coordinate with regional counterparts to align business development, marketing, operations, and project staff aiming at client satisfaction, growth, and profitability.
- Develop transportation business‑development plans and budgets, tracking performance and implementing process improvements.
- Work with the Area Marketing Service Manager to allocate marketing resources, recruit, and train marketing staff.
- Collaborate with operations managers on key hires and investments.
- Coordinate business‑development activities with other Business Group leads.
- Build and manage robust client relationships; serve as key client manager for selected clients.
- Lead or support client‑management team meetings and develop client‑management plans.
- Implement company marketing policies, procedures, standards, QA and risk management; support staff training on proposal, pursuit and capture planning.
- Monitor new market trends and support strategic and tactical planning.
- Facilitate major pursuit proposal reviews, marketing program evaluations, client feedback, peer reviews and problem resolution.
- Participate in area project pursuits and promote business and community activities as HDR representative.
- BS or BA in an appropriate engineering discipline or related field.
- 10+ years of business‑development experience in strategic program development, proposal preparation, and presentation management.
- Professional Engineering registration (PE).
- Strong knowledge of the transportation marketplace with an emphasis on New York and New Jersey.
- Excellent marketing and business‑development skills, including contract negotiation and client‑relationship building.
- Existing network of clients in New York and New Jersey.
- Capability to collaborate with diverse teams, regional and technical managers, and project staff.
- Commitment to quality, improvement and HDR values.
- Preference for candidates with diverse transportation market‑sector experience.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated self‑starter ability to complete projects with limited oversight.
- Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry’s standard procurement approach for professional services.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Network‑building ability with clients and industry partners.
- Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies.
- Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to travel and engage in person.
- Experience writing compelling content from technical information.
New York: $203,363 – $311,025 ;
New Jersey: $195,228 – $298,584.
