the township of east brunswick is accepting applications for a fleet manager within the public works department. Under the general supervision of the director of public works, this position will be responsible for scheduling and overseeing the fleet maintenance operation. Main responsibilities include:

  • managing, repairing, and maintaining motor vehicles, equipment, and fueling systems.
  • ensuring township vehicles and equipment are maintained, repaired, and serviced efficiently with limited disruption to the division.
  • managing the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment through verbal or electronic communication.
  • inspecting various motor vehicles brought to the garage to determine the extent and kinds of required servicing and repairs.
  • assessing the condition of vehicles to determine the feasibility of making repairs.
  • making the final determination if repairs are too extensive for older vehicles and recommends the disposal and replacement of such vehicles.
  • managing the disposal of vehicles that cannot be repaired, and the salvaging of parts or equipment from disposed vehicles which may be utilized in other equipment.
  • analyzing purchase and repair costs to control expenditure.
  • developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and programs for the vehicle fleet. Managing the scheduling and progress of repairs to advise management of vehicle availability and equipment adjustments.
  • scheduling repair and maintenance work with a motor pool or private contractors.
  • ensuring the motor vehicle repair and servicing with other government agencies or private vendors to obtain maximum utilization of vehicles and prevent delays in the servicing, repair, and return to use such vehicles. Maintaining records of equipment repair, maintenance, cost, and unit assignment.
  • procuring vehicle registrations and licenses. Preparing reports and maintaining records and files. Ensuring filing of accident reports.
  • instructing employees in the proper operation of vehicles and/or equipment.
  • attending trade shows and arranging demonstrations of new equipment, evaluating performance, and making recommendations.

this position is subjected to working long hours and/or shift work during snow operations, along with irregular hours during the winter.
