Nursing Mother/Baby

Trinitas Regional Medical Center provides a 20-bed Mother Baby postpartum unit, modern Labor and Delivery and Recovery rooms, and a Level II Special Care Nursery. Nurses in this unit care for mothers and newborns, demonstrating knowledge of normal post‑partum physiological and psychological adaptation.

• At least 2 years of mother‑baby nursing experience
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Flexibility and adaptability; willing to meet the needs of the unit
• Proficient computer skills
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• ASN or Nursing Diploma from an accredited nursing program
• NRP certification obtained by completion of the orientation period
• Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement

• Assess maternal‑newborn attachment and intervene for negative behaviors
• Fully support breast‑feeding by providing consistent education, discouraging supplements and pacifiers, and promoting resources for difficult feeding situations
• Maintain NRP certification
• Implement measures to reduce infant abduction risk and respond appropriately to potential situations
• Ensure newborn identification meets policy requirements
• Demonstrate knowledge of expected physiological changes during the newborn transitional period
• Maintain a thermoneutral environment for the newborn
• Obtain blood specimens via heel stick as ordered, following correct procedures and locations
• Assist physician with circumcision, ensuring informed consent and newborn comfort measures
