Job Overview:
At RWJBarnabas Health, the Registered Nurse (RN) workingon the Psychiatric Inpatient program at Trinitas Regional Medical Center (TRMC) is composed of six inpatient units with a total bed capacity of 110. The inpatient program admits patients five years of age or older who meet the criteria for inpatient admission. The program provides 24-hour-a-day, multidisciplinary, intensive treatment for patients with acute psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment, and patients with autism and intellectual disabilities with varying medical complexities.
The inpatient behavioral health services offer people with acute psychiatric crises who urgently require a safe environment, a supportive and structured milieu, and intensive psychiatric and physiological therapeutic intervention. The treatment program combines these elements into a unique and effective treatment program.
We provide management of acutely ill patients with lift-threatening conditions requiring complex assessment, high- intensity therapies and interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance. Our care management consists of care bundles based on evidence‑based practices that are executed with compassion and caring. As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:
- Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
- Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
- Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well‑coordinated care decisions
- Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
- Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
- Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
- Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes
- Organizes and administers individualized age‑specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care.
- Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning.
- Pursuing continued professional growth through access to continuing education, clinical ladder opportunities, and organizational resources that support long term career progression
- Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
