Osmo is seeking a Toxicologist to support and lead the scientific validation and safety assessment of novel fragrance ingredients and formulations. This role is responsible for the coordination and scientific oversight of toxicology studies and for ensuring that new materials meet applicable global safety standards for the personal care and fragrance industries. The position works cross-functionally with internal Enterprise Studio teams and external consultants to manage toxicology study placements, registrations, and safety evaluations, ensuring that every scent digitized by Osmo is supported by appropriate safety data.

Responsibilities
  • Toxicology Study Management

  • Coordinate and oversee the placement of toxicology studies with external laboratories.

  • Develop, review, and refine study protocols for novel ingredients to ensure scientific soundness and data quality.

  • Review completed study outputs for consistency with protocol objectives and intended safety use.

  • Global Registrations

  • Serve as the primary technical toxicology contact for external consultants supporting global ingredient registrations.

  • Provide toxicological input and clarification as required to support registration activities.

  • Client & Internal Support

  • Conduct toxicology evaluations of individual ingredients and complex fragrance formulations in response to internal or client requests.

  • Communicate toxicological findings and safety considerations in a clear and practical manner.

  • Novel Ingredient Support

  • Support the establishment of safety profiles for proprietary fragrance molecules (“Captives”).

  • Ensure safety data and conclusions align with established industry practices and consumer safety expectations.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D, Quality, and Business teams to align toxicological activities with project timelines and development needs.

  • Translate toxicology-related outputs into information that supports project planning and execution.

  • Serve as a scientific toxicology point of contact for external laboratories, consultants, and industry partners.

  • Support professional engagement with relevant industry groups and technical forums as needed, representing Osmo in discussions related to fragrance safety and toxicological evaluation.

  • Product Stewardship Support

  • Assist with broader product stewardship activities, including light regulatory evaluations and preparation of safety summaries for internal stakeholders.

Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Industry

    Experience:

    Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Personal Care, Cosmetics, or Fragrance & Flavor.

  • Toxicology Expertise: Solid understanding of toxicology principles and experience supporting the design and oversight of laboratory study protocols.

  • Regulatory Awareness: Working knowledge of global chemical regulations and safety expectations relevant to fragrance materials.

  • Communication

    Skills:

    Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and explain toxicology and safety concepts to non-scientific audiences.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and commercial timelines.

  • Education: Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, or a related life science.

Base Salary: $95k-$120k
