Make the Road States (MRstates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella.

From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large.

Make the Road States 501(c)(3) is a national organization which operates projects that deliver direct services, including adult education, youth leadership development and support programming, and legal services, to support communities, their members and their leadership, reduce oppression and discrimination, and help individuals families and communities to thrive. The projects create and maintain community spaces where participants can identify common concerns, learn and grow together, engage in change efforts and practice democratic decision-making and leadership.

The projects also engage in grassroots community organizing and civic participation. In addition to operating the projects, the Corporation also provides financial, human resources, operations, compliance and other infrastructure support to organizations that share a strategic vision and values.

Make the Road New York 501(c)(3) builds the power of Latino and working class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road NY operates neighborhood-based community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn;
Jackson Heights, Queens;
Port Richmond, Staten Island, Brentwood, Long Island and White Plains, Westchester. With a membership of more than 24,000 low-income New Yorkers, Make the Road tackles the critical issues facing our community: workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights, language-access, LGBTQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

Make the Road States seeks a Financial Analyst to be responsible for timely and thorough billing and analysis of Foundation, City, State and Federal agency funding and contracts. The Financial Analyst will provide support to a rapidly growing organization and will report directly to our Supervising Sr. Financial Analyst. This is an ideal position for an analytical person with accounting experience who is interested in fiscal grant and contract management at a not-for-profit organization.

MRS is a multi-faceted organization, and this position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, impeccable time management skills, rigorous attention to detail, a sense of humor and the ability to handle many tasks and manage competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
  • Prepare invoices and vouchers for contracts per respective agencies’ policies and procedures and submit to agency on time.
  • Pull and maintain backup documentation and analysis to support invoices and vouchers.
  • Work closely with other members of the finance department and department directors to develop budgets and budget modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulations, including A-122 related items (i.e., unallowable costs, administrative and clerical charges, Timesheet/Program Activity Reporting).
  • Help maintain and track staffing allocations for government grants
  • Assist with individual funder and annual agency fiscal audits
  • Other analysis, projects and administrative functions as required by supervisor.
