Deaf and Hard of Hearing Employment Specialist – Central NJ (Middlesex and Mercer Counties)
Shift: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Must be flexible to work evenings & weekends as needed)
About Our Program:
Easterseals partners with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation through the Career Pathways Connections program to provide person-centered employment services for individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or hard of hearing. Our team, proficient in ASL and knowledgeable about Deaf culture, supports individuals by identifying workplace accommodations and providing assistive technology to remove employment barriers.
What You’ll Do:
The Employment Specialist empowers individuals with hearing loss to secure and sustain competitive employment, fostering their independence and self-sufficiency. This role involves cultivating strong partnerships with employers to create meaningful job opportunities and identifying natural workplace supports to ensure long-term success for consumers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist consumers in overcoming employment barriers, developing skills, and achieving vocational goals through job coaching and employability training.
- Develop and execute personalized employment plans using person-centered strategies.
- Build employer networks and conduct ongoing outreach to promote hiring diversity and program services.
- Offer on-the-job training, support, and counseling related to disability and workplace needs.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and meet compliance standards (e.g., CARF).
- Represent the program at meetings, networking events, and conferences.
Who You Are:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field with one year of experience, an AA degree with two years of experience, or a high school diploma with three years of experience.
- Requirements: Fluent in ASL. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Experience: Expertise in hearing loss and workplace needs, with skills in addressing business requirements and evaluating job performance.
- Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Attributes: Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and adapt training to individual needs.
