The Residential Counselor is responsible for delivering wellness and recovery‑oriented case management and support services to service recipients in accordance with New Jersey Department of Human Services—Division of Mental Health and Addictions Services regulations.

Theodora House is a group home that serves consumers who have been discharged from a State psychiatric hospital.

Location and Shift

Location:

Fanwood, NJ 07023 (Union County)

Shift: Saturday/Sunday 10am‑6pm

Responsibilities

Provide on‑site supervision and support to service recipients.

Communicate observations and information about the service recipient to the program manager, RN, and treatment team.

Supervise, organize, and support recreational and/or socialization activities.

Transport and/or assist service recipients with accessing transportation to appointments.

Provide residential counseling and crisis intervention (excluding crisis intervention counseling).

Participate in the development of the individual service plan.

Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services.

Document observations, information, and services provided to the service recipient in progress notes.

Maintain a clean, safe environment in the facility, including assisting with meal preparation and activities of daily living as needed by the service recipient.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires one of the following: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in mental health, health, or another appropriate human services discipline; a registered nurse license; or a combination of one or more years of college plus related work or life experience totaling four years.
Additionally, applicants must have at least one year of related work or life experience if the four-year degree does not meet the above requirements. A practical nurse license plus two years of related experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of related experience are also acceptable.
A valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record that meets agency procedures.
