Academic Tutor

Job Summary
The Academic Tutor is responsible for leading small literacy and math groups to address their students' needs and goals. This position ensures that instructional activities are focused on grade-level standards and adopted high-quality instructional materials.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma, including at least one of the following:
- An associate degree
- 48 semester hours of college credit from an accredited institution
- Documentation verifying a passing score on the paraprofessional assessment test

Knowledge of
- Basic subjects taught in local schools, such as arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading
- Basic instructional methods and techniques
- Correct usage of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Safe classroom practices and appropriate student conduct
- General concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics
- Standard office and classroom equipment and relevant software applications.
Skill in
- Maintaining student confidentiality and handling information and materials with complete security.
- Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records for all students.
- Being understanding, patient, and receptive towards students of various age groups, temperaments, and abilities.
- Utilizing instructional materials, assistive technology, and communication devices used by students.
Ability to
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff.
- Act calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
