Job Summary:
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton is accepting applications for a dedicated and knowledgeable Associate Support Instructor – HVAC to assist in delivering high-quality instruction for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) programs. This role supports classroom and lab instruction, reinforces safety standards, and provides hands-on guidance to students preparing for careers in HVAC and related mechanical fields. While this position primarily supports the HVAC program, the Associate Support Instructor may be expected, from time to time, to provide instructional coverage or support for other instructors within related mechanical trades areas, as needed.

The ideal candidate will bring professional field experience, a passion for teaching, and the ability to support diverse learners in both theoretical and practical learning environments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5 years of professional experience in HVAC installation, service, maintenance, or repair
  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate degree or technical certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and safety standards
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to learners with varied experience levels
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Mechanical experience beyond HVAC (electrical, plumbing, or general mechanical systems)
  • Industry certifications such as EPA 608, NATE, HVAC Excellence, or equivalent
  • Prior teaching, mentoring, or training experience
  • Familiarity with competency-based or workforce-focused training programs
  • Experience working in a classroom or lab environment
  • Basic computer skills for instructional and reporting purposes
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the lead HVAC instructor with classroom instruction and hands‑on lab demonstrations
  • Provide individual and small-group student support during lab activities and practical assessments
  • Reinforce safety protocols and proper use of HVAC tools and equipment
  • Support curriculum delivery in areas including HVAC fundamentals, refrigeration, electrical systems, diagnostics, and troubleshooting
  • Help prepare, maintain, and organize lab equipment, tools, and training materials
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to instructors regarding performance and engagement
  • Assist with grading, attendance tracking, and documentation as assigned
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, and workplace readiness among students
  • Participate in program meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • From time to time, provide instructional support or temporary coverage for other instructors within related mechanical trades programs, while maintaining primary responsibility as the HVAC support instructor.
WORK SCHEDULE:
  • Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Instructional hours are 7:30 am-3:30 pm.
  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week at an approved campus work site.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Classroom and hands‑on lab settings with exposure to tools, machinery, and HVAC equipment
  • Standing, lifting, bending, and working in confined or elevated spaces may be required
  • Adherence to safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
SALARY RANGE:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience according to established T  salary guidelines. Salary range: $56,263 - $67,517.
