The Supervisor – Government will manage the preparation of financial statements and related documentation for government entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and accuracy. This role involves overseeing preparation processes, applying accounting principles, and supervising a team of preparers.

Job Duties

• Apply a thorough understanding of internal control frameworks to ensure the effectiveness of financial preparation processes
• Assess and validate internal controls over financial reporting to identify areas for improvement
• Communicate suggestions for improving client internal controls and accounting procedures to management, helping to enhance the overall control environment
• Supervise the preparation team, ensuring accurate execution of tasks and adherence to internal controls. Provide guidance and delegate responsibilities as needed
• Offer training and mentorship to team members to improve their understanding of internal controls and financial preparation procedures

Governmental GAAP

• Apply knowledge and understanding of governing principles; applying these principles to client transactions; and documenting and communicating an understanding and application of these principles
• Identify and consult with clients on the impact of new accounting pronouncements
• Monitor and communicate important professional, industry pronouncements
• Present and discuss alternative generally accepted accounting principles and arguments for/against such alternatives
• Identify complex accounting issues and forms and documents resolution, seek counsel of Rea technical experts as needed

GAAS/GAGAS/UG

• Apply knowledge and understanding of professional standards; application of the principles contained in professional standards; and the ability to document and communicate an understanding and application of professional standards on an engagement
• Apply a thorough knowledge of professional standards/practices, including GAAS, GAGAS, and UG in performing and supervising work
• Provide guidance to others and affirm conclusions made by others
• Communicate matters required to be reported to the Audit Committee/Board and those charged with governance
• Effectively apply the use of technology

Methodology

• Implement and adhere to preparation standards that guide the delivery of high-quality financial statements and documentation. Ensure compliance with firm methodologies and industry best practices
• Conduct detailed reviews of preparation processes to ensure alignment with firm standards and regulatory requirements. Address and resolve any issues or discrepancies
• Plan and oversee the preparation process, balancing quality, efficiency, and timeliness. Recommend improvements to enhance process effectiveness and resolve critical issues
• Manage client acceptance and retention procedures where applicable, ensuring a smooth and professional relationship

Research

• Apply methodology used to seek or maintain information from authoritative sources and to draw conclusions regarding a target issue based on that information
• Define methodology to conduct research projects and completes in a timely manner
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of all appropriate research tools and draw conclusions based upon appropriate research
