Parts Counter Clerk

Job Description

The Counter Person is the primary point of contact for customers at an auto mechanic shop.

This role involves greeting customers, understanding their vehicle needs, coordinating with technicians, and ensuring a smooth, professional experience from drop-off to pick-up.

• Greet customers promptly and professionally at the front counter
• Listen to customer concerns and gather vehicle and service information
• Create repair orders and accurately document requested services
• Communicate repair needs, estimates, and timelines to customers
• Coordinate with mechanics and shop staff regarding vehicle status
• Order, receive, and distribute parts as needed
• Process payments, invoices, and basic cash register transactions
• Answer phones, schedule appointments, and respond to inquiries
• Maintain a clean, organized front counter and office area

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Basic knowledge of automotive systems and terminology preferred
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable using computers, point-of-sale systems, and shop software
• Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable

• Previous experience in an auto repair shop, parts counter, or service advisor role
• Familiarity with parts ordering systems and vehicle lookup tools
• Ability to work well with technicians and customers

• Automotive repair shop with frequent customer interaction
• Standing, walking, and light lifting may be required
