Job Summary:
The DPS UI/UX Programmer 5 is responsible for designing and developing modern, intuitive user interfaces and user experiences for complex, workflow-heavy applications. This role involves close collaboration with business users, project managers, and development teams within an agile environment to create user-centered designs that align with product strategy and accessibility standards. The consultant will research, prototype, and deliver reusable design systems while ensuring seamless integration with backend development and compliance with security and accessibility requirements.
Responsibilities:- Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and user-friendly interfaces supporting complex business processes.
- Participate in all stages of product development from discovery and research to design and iteration.
- Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design concepts.
- Create and maintain a design system library for component reuse and visual consistency.
- Ensure UI/UX designs comply with security policies, accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508), and coding standards.
- Work closely with backend developers to integrate front-end components.
- Participate in agile ceremonies such as backlog grooming and sprint planning to align design and development efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technical staff.
- Lead and manage large design initiatives, balancing priorities across product and engineering teams.
- Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, facilitating meetings and building consensus.
Certifications:
- Minimum 8 years of experience designing user-centered interfaces for workflow-heavy applications.
- Advanced knowledge of information architecture, navigation, and multi-step workflows.
- 8+ years experience working within Agile methodologies including backlog refinement and sprint planning.
- 5+ years experience with design systems, component libraries, and visual standards.
- 5+ years experience designing and delivering SaaS, enterprise, or complex digital products.
- Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma, Axure, Sketch, or equivalents.
- Familiarity with backend and frontend development environments to collaborate effectively.
- Experience designing accessible interfaces compliant with WCAG and Section 508.
- Demonstrated understanding of secure UX design practices.
- Experience collaborating with frontend developers on HTML/CSS implementation details.
- Strong communication, leadership, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
- UI/UX certification or a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Psychology, Computer Science, or related field is highly desired.
Certifications:
- Experience creating and managing design system libraries for reusability and consistency.
- Proven ability to lead large design initiatives and manage competing priorities.
- Strong facilitation skills for meetings and work sessions.
- Experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members.
- Candidate must be an Ohio resident and perform all work within the State of Ohio.
- Onsite presence required every third day at the Shipley building located at 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus.
- Government equipment is strictly prohibited from being taken or used outside the United States.
- Background check will be conducted by ODPS prior to engagement.
- Candidates must be willing and able to interview in person at the Shipley building.
- Work schedule includes onsite attendance every third day with collaboration in an agile environment.
- Interviews include a 15-minute Teams session followed by full onsite interviews.
- Project duration from September 14, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
