Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

Representative Duties / Essential Functions
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate superior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students, as adopted by the local and state Board of Education.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations, pertaining to teacher and students.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Continuously strive to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and perform duties prescribed by the principal and by School Board Policies.
  • Promote public relations for the school’s programs and activities.
  • Become acquainted with parents; report any unusual occurrence or event to the principal or the designated representative immediately.
  • Contact the principal or the designated representative as soon as possible when the teacher must be absent from school.
  • Remain at school during the entire school day unless excused by the principal or the designated representative.
  • Participate in the selection, adoption, and inventory of textbooks.
  • Implement all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the School SBDM Council and the School Board for the district.
  • Maintain a professional appearance as an example for students.
  • The Board of Education delegates to the person holding this position the reasonable authority necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities listed for this position.
  • Be familiar with and incorporate the use of technology in daily tasks.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Adhere to the professional code of conduct.
Education and Experience

Valid State Teaching Certificate for Specific Subject Area and/or Grade Level.

Terms of Employment

187 days*. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
* Specified positions may have extended days.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.

Position Type

Full‑Time. Salary: $47,041 to $86,850 per District Salary Schedule.
