Assistant or Associate Professor – Meat Science Extension and Teaching

Position summary:

This is a nine‑month, tenure‑track appointment (65% Extension, 30% Teaching, 5% Service) with the University of Georgia’s Department of Animal and Dairy Science. The role requires a Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or a closely related field and involves developing and leading a nationally recognized meat science Extension program, teaching related courses, and conducting applied research.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead a state‑of‑the‑art meat science Extension program, interacting with industry, county agents, and other scientists.
  • Serve as a resource on meat processing, fresh and processed meat production, meat evaluation, HACCP training, and 4‑H/FFA judging, and provide guest lectures.
  • Contribute to a comprehensive meat science curriculum covering meat evaluation, fresh meats, and processed meats.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; support industry work experiences, internships, and extracurricular learning.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in meat science and a graduate course in the applicant’s area of expertise.
  • Develop externally funded, applied research programs and secure extramural funding.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 full years as an Assistant Professor for consideration as an Associate Professor.
  • Demonstrated national reputation and a record of excellence in meat science research.
  • Experience with intercollegiate meat judging and a proven record of publishing innovative research.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and industry professionals.
